About SAResponder

SAResponder is the outcome of a considerable amount of time, input and trials in an active search and rescue organisation. It came about due to issues arising from managing crew availability.

With compliance being an increasingly scrutinised part of rescue boat coding and national requirements we were looking for better ways to manage crew availability. We tried chat groups and even adapting an existing app but it was old and regularly failed, causing crew and management to lose confidence in it. Other software packages were considered but proved too big and bulky with unnecessary options and high running costs. SAResponder was created and continues to develop its offering with enhanced features tailored to the specific organisation.

I have over 17 years of experience in search and rescue as a volunteer, along with 7 years as a full-time employee delivering training and assessments for a major SAR organisation. This extensive involvement has given me deep insight into how rescue organisations operate and the challenges faced at every level. From this experience, I came up with the idea for a platform designed to support crews and improve the effectiveness of rescue operations by combining real-world SAR knowledge with innovative technology.

I have a strong background in app development, built on a foundation in Software Engineering at Edge Hill University and further developed through creating major applications for well-known brands. I was later approached with the idea of building an application to support search and rescue, and after discussing it and mapping out a plan, the concept took hold. This not only led me to develop the app itself but also inspired me to join my local volunteer lifeboat crew. By combining my technical expertise with first-hand SAR experience, I am committed to creating tools that improve coordination and increase the chances of successful rescues.
